Charles J. Rickertsen, 76, of Council Bluffs died May 23 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

He was born Dec. 31, 1926 in Omaha to Chris and Bessie (Olsen) Rickertsen and graduated from Omaha Technical High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and worked as a warehouseman for Safeway Foods for more than 40 years before his retirement in 1991.

He was a member of McPherson Avenue Church of Christ.

Mr. Rickertsen was preceded in death by a son, Marvin.

Mr. Rickertsen and his wife, Margery, had been married since Feb. 21, 1951.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Gloria Dreher and husband, Paul, of Council Bluffs, Margarett Merneno of Bellflower, Calif., and Mary A. Menter of Council Bluffs; two sons, Donald and wife, Sue, of Birmingham, Ala., and Charles and wife, Kathleen, of Denver; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.

The body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at McPherson Avenue Church of Christ with the Rev. Curt DeBoer, pastor, officiating.

Memorials may be offered to McPherson Avenue Church of Christ.
