Bette Lee Ratliff, 79, of Council Bluffs died May 7 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs.

She was born Aug. 3, 1923, in Eureka, Kan., to Thomas and Ruth Johnson Forbes. She graduated from Eureka High School and later graduated from the University of Kansas in 1948. She was a clerk in the office of the Kansas Secretary of State. She also was a partner of R & B Silver Refining in Oskaloosa.

She married Walter D. "Bud" Ratliff in Eureka on June 18, 1948. He died May 17, 1990.

Survivors include a son, David Scott Ratliff, and a daughter, Vicki Jacoba, both of Council Bluffs.

Memorials may be offered to Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka or to the American Diabetes Association and sent in care of Mercer Funeral Home, PO Box 6, Valley Falls, KS 66088.
