Shirley J. Smith, 68, of Crescent died May 6 at home.

She was born March 9, 1935, in Brownville, Neb., to William Earl and Mildred M. (Wheeldon) Brown. She moved to Council Bluffs in 1940 and lived at the farm since 1971. She was a 1952 graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. She was a homemaker, and secretary and treasurer for M.A. Smith Real Estate for 39 years. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and attended the Followers of Christ Church in Woodbine.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G., on June 24, 2002. They were married Dec. 9, 1952. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Warren Brown, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Survivors include two sons, Robert G. Jr. and Steven Edward, both of Council Bluffs; two daughters, Sarrina Belle Ohlinger and fiance Todd Smith, and Julie Kay McCormick and husband, Gary, all of Council Bluffs; two sisters, Beverly Gilley and husband, Gary, of Kallispell, Mont., and Myrna Jones of Little Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Richard Brown and wife, Barbara, of Quincy, Calif., and William E. Brown Jr. and wife, Patti, of Grapevine, Ark.; two granddaughters; two grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Community of Christ Church. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the church.

Memorials may be offered to the family.
