Leona L. Vorthmann, 98, died May 3, 2003, at Indian Hills Nursing Center.

She was born Sept. 12, 1904, to Arthur Saar and Anna Schultz in Treynor.

She taught school at Keg Creek No. 5 and was also a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and served as their ladies' aide. She volunteered at Jennie Edmundson Hospital and was active working with senior citizens.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wallace Harsch; her second husband, Roy Julius; her third husband, Herman Vorthmann; and a daughter, Shirley Gleason.

She is survived by a son, Arthur Harsch of Treynor; a son-in-law, Max Gleason of Orange, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Anna Hanselmann and husband Herb of Dubuque, Alice Novak and husband Louis of Denver, and Audrey Maguire of Treynor; two nieces, Elaine Olson of Minden, and Karen Underwood of Florida; a nephew, Donald Saar of Treynor; two granddaughters, Jean Buzzard of Southlake, Texas, and Linda Forgeron of Beaverton, Ore.; four great-grandchildren; numerous stepgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Visitation with family will be Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Treynor.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Arlyn Norris officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Whittier, Calif.

Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Treynor Fire and Rescue Squad.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home.
