William M. Tiarks, Sr.

William Melvin Tiarks, Sr., age 85, passed away July 9, 2010.

He was born April 20, 1925. William served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a Prisoner of War for 13 months. Life-long member of Neola American Legion, American Ex-POW and DAV. Member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by parents, Julius and Alvina (Grote) Tiarks; siblings, Elisa (Lizzie) Graalfs, Harvey Tiarks, Ella Mark, Irma Mils, Arline McKern, Julius J. Tiarks, Ethel Olsen, Armin (Pete) Tiarks.

Survived by wife, Dorothy (Bunny); son and daughter-in-law, Bill Jr. and Andrea Tiarks; granddaughters, Jessica Tiarks and Billy Jay and Hillary Tiarks; great grandson, Wyatt Jay; sisters-in-law, Arlene Tiarks, Maxine Tiarks, Iva Mae Gittins, Gloria Gittins; brother-in-law, Virgil Cook; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside Service, Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 10 a.m., at Cedar Lawn Cemetery with military honors by Neola American Legion Post 330, meet at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home Bayliss Park Chapel at 9:30 a.m., for cortege to cemetery. Memorial Service following the Graveside Service 11 a.m., at St. John’s United Church of Christ with lunch after the service at church.

Memorials suggested to St. John’s United Church of Christ or Eagles of Honor Project in Neola, Underwood or McClelland.
