Loretta A. Boyer

Loretta A. Boyer, age 85, of Neola Iowa, passed away, Tuesday morning, June 22, 2010.

She was born in Faribault, Minn., on April 22nd, 1925, to the late Mary Magdalena (Karp) Kern and Joannes Albertus (Albert John) Kern.

Loretta was also referred to as, Babe, Lori, Sugar and Dolly. When Loretta was 19 years old, she joined Banard Brothers Circus, and traveled all over the United States, performing on horses, and training dogs. She married Donald E. Boyer on November 21, 1951, in Papillion, Neb. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Neola Iowa. She loved her dogs, gardening and flowers.

Loretta was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Boyer; siblings, Agatha (Kern) Sherman, Rita (Kern)Slinger and George Kern.

Loretta is survived by sister, Rosemary (Kern) Maloney of Norfolk, Va.; sister-in-law, Yvonne Boyer, of Neola, Iowa; sons, John D. (Sherry) Boyer, of Edmund, Okla., Dennis R. (Cheryl)
Boyer, of Council Bluffs; daughter, Donna A. Boyer, of Neola.

Donna moved from the state of Washington to Neola in 2000 to help her mother as she suffered from Parkinson’s disease. Also survived by her grandchildren, Christina (Cricket) Boyer, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Christopher Boyer, of Edmund, Okla., Angela M. Boyer, of Omaha, Neb., and Amanda L. (Joe) Boyer-Finelli, of St. Louis Park, Minn. Loretta has one great grandchild, Avery Boyer, of Edmund, Okla., and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her friend, Lisa Kinney.

Wake service Friday, 6 p.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Neola, with visitation to follow until 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Church, Rev. Raphael Masabakhwa, officiant.

Luncheon will immediately follow the Mass at the church hall. Family will direct memorials.
