Nelle M. Chew

Nelle M. (Curry) Chew, 100, of Pharr, Texas, died April 12 at Las Palmas Nursing Center in McAllen, Texas.

She was born in Galena, Okla. She previously lived in Council Bluffs and Galena. She attended college for two years. She taught third and fourth grades at Iowa School for the Deaf for 15 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Lionalls, Service League and Tri-Sigma Sorority.

Mrs. Chew was preceded in death by her husband, Fee C., in 1993. They were married 67 years.

Survivors include two sons, Terry and wife, Linda, of Marion and Tim and wife, Nancy, of Council Bluffs; four grandchildren, Jenny and husband, Tom Novick, Amy, Mikki and Chad Chew; one great-granddaughter, Zanne Novick; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. There will be a private family burial.

Memorials may be offered to First Congregational Church, Lions Club or ISD.
