Virginia Walters Sythoff

The funeral for Virginia Marie Walters Sythoff, 86, of Council Bluffs will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with Bishop Fred Lopez and 1st Counselor Tony Beck officiating.

Mrs. Sythoff died April 10 at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 25, 1917, in Council Bluffs to Charles and Iva (Mynster) Harvey. She was a sales clerk at Brandeis Department Store in Omaha for 10 years and a homemaker. She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, the Relief Society and Visiting Teachers Group, both at the church.

Mrs. Sythoff was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Walters, in 1978 and second husband, Otto Sythoff, in 1996.

Survivors include one daughter, Vel Slotten, and husband, Lorne George, of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren, Norman Geisler and Laura Proplesch, both of Council Bluffs, Steven Geisler of Tempe, Ariz., Douglas Slotten of Killeen, Texas, and Monty Slotten of Boise; five great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Garner Township Cemetery with a lunch following at the church.

Memorials may be offered to the church or Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home.
