Orpha J. Welch

Orpha J. Welch, 83, of Council Bluffs died March 10 at Bethany Lutheran Nursing Home.

She was born May 14, 1919, in Council Bluffs to Charles and Jennie (Richie) Kerns. She was a laborer for Tip Top Corp. for 17 years, retiring in 1981. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Mrs. Welch was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Welch, in 1985 and her son, Chester "Scott" Blake Jr., in 1999.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Jerry A. Blake of Council Bluffs and Wendy Masek and husband, Tim, of Denver, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Blake, of Council Bluffs; three brothers, Jerry "Jake" Kerns and wife, Rosemary, of Council Bluffs, Ivan Kerns of Monroe and Earl Kerns of Walnut; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gene Springer of Open Door Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to the family.
