David F. Sweeney

David F. Sweeney, 76, of Treynor died March 4 at Risen Son Nursing Home.

He was born in Hempstead, N.Y., Dec. 22, 1926, to Frank and Laurena (Lee) Sweeney. He graduated from Southside High School in Rockville, N.Y., and the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

He served in the Marine Corps during World War II.

He worked for Price-Waterhouse Accounting Firm & Bickfords, and as an accountant for Kerr-McGee from 1976 until his retirement in 1985.

He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood.

Mr. Sweeney and his wife, Joanann (Lohr), were married 48 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Teresa "Teri" Johnson and husband, Tom, of Treynor, and Joanne Sweeney of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Kirsten and Dave Sweeney, and Michelle and Susan Johnson; two sons, David Sweeney and wife, Susan, of Brandon, Fla., and James Sweeney of Corpus Christi; four brothers, John "Jack" Sweeney of Greenwood, Ark., Edward Sweeney and wife, Charlotte, of Seaford, N.Y., Raymond Sweeney and wife, Joan, of Traverse City, Mich., and Herbert Sweeney and wife, Joan, of North Caldwell, N.J.; and a sister, Lorena Mergenthaler of Oxford, Md.

Funeral Mass will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Council Bluffs with the Rev. Paul Monohan of Holy Rosary Church in Glenwood officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites performed by the American Legion Rainbow Post No. 2.

Memorials may be offered to Treynor Fire and Rescue.
