In Memory: Neil L. Smith

Neil Lynn Smith, 51, of Council Bluffs died November 24 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

He was born in Council Bluffs. He was a graduate of Abraham Lincoln High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from November 1970 to April 1971.

He was a contractor with Ronco/Linde in Omaha for 17 years.

Mr. Smith and his wife, Trudy, were married six months.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two sons, Nathan Smith of Council Bluffs and Corey Smith of Bellevue, Nebraska; two stepdaughters, Shanelle Fichter of Tabor and Marissa Hathaway of Hamburg; one step-son, Michael Nelson, of Omaha; four sisters, Betty Moore of Vancouver, Washington, Christine Jones of Harlan, Marlene Little of Persia, Shirley Saar of Council Bluffs; two brothers, Lester Smith of Loveland and Stanley Smith of Neola; nine step grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Light House Temple, 1430 Ave. E. The funeral was held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Light House Temple with the Rev. Larry Belt and the Rev. Don Bates officiating. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. Pauley Funeral Home in Harlan was in charge of arrangements.
