In Memory: Ned Hayes

Funeral service for Ned Hayes, 80, of Council Bluffs was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Paff of St. John's United Church of Christ officiating.

Mr. Hayes died December 13 at home.

He was born to Winthrop and Bernice Hayes of rural Lucas County in 1922. He served in the Navy during World War II and later founded Hayes Insurance Agency and Hayes Real Estate Agency. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club, Board of Realtors and the Independent Insurance Agents of Council Bluffs.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene (Miller) Hayes. They were married for 56 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a daughter, Susan Hoffman, and husband, Gary, of Council Bluffs; two sons, Curtis and wife, Kathy, of Council Bluffs and Leslie and wife, Patricia, of Arvada, Colorado; a sister, Ruth Soppe and husband, George, of Neola; and six grandchildren.

Visitation with the family was held Monday evening at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Burial with graveside military rights were held in Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a luncheon.

Memorials may be offered to the American Heart Association.
