In Memory: Melissa Ann Manhart

Melissa Ann Manhart, 16, of rural Neola, died Friday, September 1, 2000 as a result of an auto accident near her home.

Melissa was born on March 3, 1984 in Council Bluffs and was the daughter of Dan and Peggy Ploen Manhart.

She was a junior at Tri-Center Community High School of Neola, where she participated in band, chorus and speech. She was a member of the volleyball and softball teams, was involved in the mentoring program at school, was an office aide and was presently serving as a member of the student council.

Melissa was involved in 4-H activities through the Persia Satellites 4-H Club. She was baptized and confirmed at the Minden United Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by her parents, Dan and Peggy Manhart; her grandparents, Lynn and Eva Manhart of Neola, Margie Ploen of Avoca and Harley Ploen of Avoca; uncles and aunts, Linda Zellmer, Jack and Judy Ploen, Vince and Tamera Ploen, Chuck and Linda Ploen, Vern Manhart, David and Cindy Manhart, and Calvin and Amy Manhart; her faithful dog, Toby; cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Her funeral was held Wednesday, September 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Tri-Center High School. The service was led by Superintendent Brett Nanninga and Dale Gleason, with members of the junior class serving as honorary bearers and music provided by the Tri-Center music department under the direction of Arla Clausen.

Bearers were David Manhart, Calvin Manhart, Vern Manhart, Jack Ploen, Vince Ploen and Charles Ploen.

Visitation with the family had been held Tuesday evening at the Minden United Church of Christ. Interment was at the Minden Cemetery.

Knutson Funeral Home of Avoca was in charge of arrangements.
