In Memory: Merlin Peterson

Merlin Leroy Peterson, 65, of Henderson, Colorado, died August 2 at Thorton, Colorado.

He was born in Council Bluffs and had lived in Shelby, Anita, Guthrie Center and Pekin in Iowa and lived in Arizona before moving to the Denver area in 1994.

He attended school in Shelby. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. He was manager for the Super 8 Motel in Henderson. He was past member of the Masonic Lodge of Iowa, and the Eastern Star and was a volunteer firefighter in Guthrie Center for 10 years.

Mr. Peterson and his wife, Marlene, were married 40 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include two daughters, Jennifer Miller and husband, Terry, of Harcourt and Janelle Wilkey of Clarksville, Tennessee; two sons, Garland and wife, Cheryl, of Vilonia, Arkansas, and James and wife, Tonya, of Germany, a sister, Genevieve Madsen, of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Irene Peterson of Shelby, and five grandchildren.

Services were held at the Shelby Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dale Jenson and the Rev. Robert L. Capps officiating. Burial was in the Shelby Cemetery. Knutson Funeral Home in Avoca was in charge of arrangements.
