In Memory: Neil J. Jessen

Funeral for Neil J. Jessen, 90, a resident of Indian Hills Nursing Center, was held Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with Elder Jim Kurtz of the RLDS Council Bluffs Central Congregation officiating.

Mr. Jessen died August 1 at the nursing center:

He was born in Boomer Township and lived in rural Neola before moving to the nursing home six months ago. He graduated from Neola High School in 1926. He had farmed near Neola all of his life, was a Grade A dairy farmer and raised apples. He was active in the consolidation of the Tri-Center School District, served several terms on the Tri-Center School Board and served as a board member for the Farmers Home Administration.

Mr. Jessen was preceded in death by his wife, Fern, in 1954.

Survivors include a daughter, Maxine Jessen, of Neola; three sons, James and wife, Ida, of Omaha, David and wife, Connie, of Ottawa, Kansas, and Steven and wife, Carol, of Neligh, Nebraska; four sisters, Grace Diedricksen and Ione Turner, both of Council Bluffs, Edith Meadows and husband, Quinton, and Ilo Harmon and husband, Frank, all of Neola; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in the Grange Cemetery.

Memorials may be offered to a scholarship fund in his name at Tri-Center School.
