In Memory: Catherine Johansen

Funeral for Catherine "Katie" Johansen, 91, of Woodbine was held Monday at 10 A.M. at the First Christian Church in Woodbine with the Rev. John Eilers officiating.

Mrs. Johansen died March 17 at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs where she had been a resident for the past nine years.

She was born on May 16, 1908, in Persia to Chris and Mattie Christensen.

In 1927, she graduated from Persia High School. She taught school for 33 years, including 10 years in Woodbine.

She attended the First Christian Church in Woodbine and was active in the Hemlock Neighborhood Club, the Sew & Chat Quilting Club and the Retired Teachers

In 1931, she married Elmer Johansen. He preceded her in death on May 3, 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Imogene Kelley and husband, George, of Council Bluffs and Rita Mooney and husband, John, of Seymour, Texas; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Victor Christensen, and twelve half brothers and sisters.

Visitation with the family has held at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Following a luncheon at the church, burial was in Valley View Cemetery in rural Persia. Memorials may be offered to a scholarship fiend to be established.
