Laura L. Iversen

The funeral for Laura L. (Tiarks) Iversen, 90, of Council Bluffs will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 400 Cloverdale, with the Rev. Tony Paff officiating.

Mrs. Iversen died Feb. 18 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

She was born May 3, 1912, in rural Council Bluffs (Garner Township) to Anton and Louisa (Torneten) Tiarks. She lived in Council Bluffs from 1912-1945 and then lived in Shelby from 1947-1957. She also lived in Kansas City, Mo. She moved back to Council Bluffs in 1999. She went to Garner Township No. 4 Country School and graduated in 1930 from Abraham Lincoln High School. She attended one year of beauty school in 1939. She was a cosmetologist and owned and operated the Elite Beauty Salon in Council Bluffs from 1940-1945. She had Laura's Beauty Shop in Shelby as well as a shop in Kansas City. She was a member of United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Shelby; St. John's United Church of Christ in Council Bluffs; E.C.L.A. Church Women; American Legion Auxiliary No. 240 in Shelby; Amber Star Chapter No. 328 Order of Eastern Star in Quick; Stitch and Chatter Club; Bridge Club of Avoca and the Duplicate Bridge Club of Council Bluffs. She was also a volunteer at Jennie Edmundson.

Mrs. Iverson was preceded in death by her four husbands, Bertus Behrens in 1937, Harley Christoffersen in 1952, Bill Niesz in 1980 and Rueben Iversen in 2001. She was also preceded in death by parents; her sister, Marie Howard; brother, Henry Tiarks; grandson, Terry Niesz; and great-grandson, Aaron Messenger.

Survivors include two sons, Gerald Behrens of Shelby, Kenneth Niesz and wife, Wetona, of Fontana, Kan.; one stepson, Wesley Iversen and wife, Patricia, of Prospect, Ill.; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Carley and husband, Marion, of Council Bluffs, Edna McBride of Glendale, Calif., and Margaret Havens of Sun Valley, Calif.; one brother, Donald Tiarks, and wife, Jo Ann, of McClelland; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family will be Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn with a lunch following at the church.

Memorials may be offered to St. John's United Church of Christ.
