In Memory: Robert F. Schwieso

A memorial Mass for Robert F. Schwieso, 67, of Portland, N.D., a former Neola resident, was held Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Neola with the Rev. Dan Kirby, pastor, officiating.

Mr. Schwieso died April 6 at his home.

He was born May 17, 1933, in Vail to Frank and Mary (Cavanaugh) Schwieso and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Neola in 1951. He had lived in Neola, Omaha and Davenport.

He earned a bachelor's degree from Loras College in Dubuque in 1961 and a master's degree in history from Creighton University in 1963. He later earned a doctorate in history from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was assistant dean and associate dean of arts and sciences at Creighton University from 1964 to 1973, served as vice president of Marycrest College in Davenport from 1975 to 1980 and vice president of Mayville State University in Mayville, N.D., from 1980 until his retirement in 1996.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and American Legion Post No. 330 in Neola.

Survivors include his mother, Mary, of Council Bluffs; a sister, Marian Pauley, and husband, Neil, of Persia; nieces and nephews.

A rosary was held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Neola, followed by visitation with the family.

Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 330 of Neola, followed by a lunch in the church hall.

Belford O'Neill Hillside Mortuary in Neola was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be offered to the church.
