In Memory: Kenneth D. Girton

Funeral for Kenneth D. Girton, 73, of Council Bluffs was held at 10:30 A.M. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Prescott officiating.

Mr. Girton died from cancer on January 10 at his residence.

He was born October 11, 1928, in Missouri Valley to Clifford and Hazel (Donnelson) Girton and graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946-48 and worked for Griffin Pipe from 1959-94 when he retired. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and was a member and former president of the Steelworkers Union No 3141.

Mr. Girton and his wife, Janice (Christiansen), were married 46 years.

Survivors in addition to his wife include three daughters, Lisa Faurot and husband, Ed, of Council Bluffs, Erin Kirke and husband, Christopher, of Council Bluffs, and Kristine Becker and husband, Richard, of Shelby; son, Kevin Girton and wife, Celeste, of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Virginia Richardson and Mary Armstrong, both of Council Bluffs; brother, Donald Girton and wife, Alma, of Tucson, Arizona; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was held Sunday at Belford-O’Neill Funeral Home.

Burial was at Ridgewood Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Rainbow Post No 2.

Memorials may be offered to St. john’s Lutheran Church.
