Carol E. Butts
Funeral for Carol Earlene Butts, 84, of Council Bluffs will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Cutler Funeral Home with elders Tom Arnold and Ken Sewing officiating.
She died May 2 at Southwest Iowa Medical Center of natural causes.
She was born May 15, 1917, in Pottawattamie County near Underwood to Thomas C. and Sarah E. (Carlile) Sewing. She lived in Council Bluffs 61 years. She graduated from Underwood High School in 1934 and later graduated from Boyles Business College. She was civil service secretary for the U.S. government, serving the Navy and Air Force and retiring in 1981.
She was a member of Community of Christ Church. She taught Sunday school at Community of Christ for more than 60 years.
Mrs. Butts and her husband, Baron A, were married 64 years.
Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Sharon Batson and husband, Lamar, of Council Bluffs and Dr. Carolyn Carlyle and husband, Dr. Robert Skenes, of Colonial Beach, Va.; one sister, Rosalie Tawzer, of Omaha; one brother, Marvin Sewing, and wife, Rosemary, of Minden; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.
Visitation with the family will be today from 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Fisher Cemetery in Underwood with a reception following at Community of Christ Church, 140 E. Kanesville Blvd.
Memorials may be offered to the Community of Christ Church.
