Joe Peterson

WOODBINE - Joe Peterson, 84, of Woodbine died Jan. 31 at the Veteran's Hospital in Omaha.

He was born May 29, 1918, in Logan to Elmer and Susan (Cecil) Peterson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany. They purchased the Westside Tap in Woodbine in 1966. They sold the bar in 1979. He was a 50-plus year member of the Weiss American Legion Post 143.

Survivors include his wife, Lena; four children, Toni Wilcoxen of Council Bluffs, Judy Howie and husband, James, of Omaha, Mary Jo Collins and Danny Jochims and wife, Deb, all of Woodbine; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, one sister, Eileen Hoover of Spencer and brother, James Peterson of Buckner, Mo.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fouts Funeral Home in Woodbine. Memorial services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap.
