Mrs. Harriett Clementine Dulin Hageboeck 1873-circa 1944

Funeral services for Mrs. Emil Hageboeck who died Saturday December 9th at the University Hospital in Iowa City were held at the Blust Bros. Funeral home Wednesday afternoon, December 13th with the Rev. Ivan Bachtell officiating.

Mrs. Hageboeck had been in ill health for the past sixteen years. She suffered a stroke on April 11, 1942 and remained a semi-invalid. Mrs. Emma Leonard, a sister, lived with and cared for her the past several years.

Mrs. Harriett Clementine Hageboeck was born the daughter of James and Sarah Dulin just south of Avoca on May 31, 1873. She was united in marriage to Emil Hageboeck on May 12, 1891.

From 1892 to 1900, they lived in Carson, where Mr. Hageboeck owned and operated a harness shop, then they farmed for nine years. In 1910, they moved to Avoca, where Mr. Hageboeck again engaged in the harness business. Mr. Hageboeck died in March I, 1930.

“Hattie” as she was called by her many friends both old and young was a member of the first congregational church and of the Rebecca Lodge.

Her husband, a 4 year old son, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

She is survived by the following: two daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Tollinger of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Marie Derby of Avoca; two sons, Victor of Long Beach, California; Lt. John in the Army stationed in the South Pacific; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Leonard of Avoca; Mrs. Frank Robinson of Carter Lake; one brother, Ed Dulin of Omaha; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as a number of other relatives and a great many friends.

Three of Mrs. Hageboeck’s grandchildren are in the service, Ned, Billy and Dean Derby who were all home recently to visit her.
