Mrs. Marie Anna Cordes Priester 1866-1943

Funeral services for Mrs. Henry Priester, 76, were held at her home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with the Rev. Joseph Gerlt in charge. Mrs. Priester died at a Council Bluffs hospital Saturday, July 24th.

Marie Anna Priester, the oldest daughter of Herman Cordes and Anna Baden Cordes, was born November 30, 1866 in Hanover, Germany and was called to her eternal home last Saturday morning, at 2:00 am, after having reached the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 24 days.

At the age of 16 she came to this country and on March 8, 1891, she was united in marriage to Henry Priester. Mr. and Mrs. Priester moved to the present Priester farm 3 ˝ miles northeast of Avoca, remaining there until 1911 when they moved to their present home.

In March of 1941 they were privileged to celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary, however, before that year ended, on November 11th, Mr. Priester was called by death.

There remain to mourn her passing, three daughters, Mrs. Rudolph Stender, Mrs. R. f. McKinley, Mrs. Lawrence Carroll all of Avoca; one son, Ferdinand Priester of California; two grandchildren: Maxine Taylor and Betty McKinley.
