Fred Tiessen 1863-1942

A son of Claus Tiessen and his wife, Matilda Jabens was born in Schuftssted, Holstein, Germany, on August 9, 1863 and passed into his eternal rest last Monday night having reached the ripe age of 79 years, 2 months, and 3 days.

Mr. Tiessen came to America at the age of about 16 years, residing for a number of years with his uncle in Clinton, Iowa, after which he spent a few years in Manning and then came to Avoca where he spent all the remaining days of his life. Mr. Tiessen is well known to Avoca as he was one of Avoca’s chief contractors, being active until recent years.

He was married to Emma Roholfs on August 26, 1887, to which union was blessed with two daughters and one son.

There remain to mourn his passing besides his wife, Mrs. Emma Tiessen, two daughters: Mrs. R. J. Bornholdt (Matilda) of Jackson, Michigan, Mrs. Elmer Bornholdt (Ella) of Avoca and one son, Carl Tiessen of Los Angeles, California, as well as three grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Last rites were held at the Bust Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon of October 14th at 2:30 pm with Rev J. Gerlt as the officiating clergyman.
