George Leo Grauel 1880-1947

Funeral services for George Leo Grauel, 57, a former Avoca resident were held at Pasadena, California, on Tuesday, December 16. Rev. M. K. W. Hekier officiated at the services held at the Mountain view cemetery chapel and interment was in Mountain View cemetery. The Grauel chapel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Mr. Grauel was born in Harlan on November 24, 1880 and passed away in Altadena, California on Saturday, December 13, 1947. He is survived by two brothers, Harold of Costa Mesa, California, Clarence of San Juan Capistrano, California, and one sister, Mrs. Ed Harris of Los Angeles, California.

He came to Avoca in 1910 with his parents and family. He was employed as a clerk in the Diederich grocery store and later for the Harris grocery. Later he was in business for himself in Avoca buying and selling produce. He was always interested in sports and managed several baseball and basketball teams.

He moved to Omaha in 1930 and to California in 1936.
