Chris Hinz 1870-1948

Funeral services for Chris Hinz, 78, were held from the First Lutheran Church Monday, September 6, at 2 pm with the Rev Joseph Gerlt officiating. Burial was in the family lot in Gracelenad cemetery.

Mr. Hinz died at his home in Avoca Friday evening, September 3, following a long illness.

Chris Hinz, a son of Hans Hinz and his wife Margret Gesler was born in Schlewig-Holstein, Germany on August 6, 1870. He came to this country in 1886and settled near Marne where he was employed on a farm.

On March 5, 1893, he was married to Anna Wasser and they started framing west of Avoca where they lived for about ten years. They moved to Columbia, Mo., where they farmed for three years. Mr. and Mrs. Hinz returned to Avoca and bought their present farm two and one-half miles southeast of here. In 1921, they retired to their present home in town.

Survivors include his wife; four sons: Fred of Avoca, Ernest of Chicago, Clarence of Minden, Glen of Ft. Worth, Texas; one daughter, Mrs. Gus Lassen of Chicago; a brother, P.W. Hinz of Avoca; five grandsons and one great grandson.
