Alfred Bauer 1903-1948

Last rites for Alfred F. Bauer who died at a Council Bluffs hospital Sunday, February 19 following a long illness. Services were held from the First Lutheran church here Wednesday at 2 pm with the Rev. Joseph Gerlt in charge of the services. Interment was in Graceland cemetery.

Mr. Bauer, a son of Frank Bauer and Mary Nammany, was born on September 7, 1903 in Monroe township in Shelby county. At the time of his passing he was 44 years, 5 months, and 8 days old.

He attended the rural schools of the community and also took some specialized training in mechanical engineering at Lincoln, Nebraska.

On July 15, 1924, he was married to Hazel Guensche. They have lived in the vicinity of Walnut, Hancock, and Avoca all during their married life with the exception of three years when they lived in Council Bluffs while Mr. Bauer was employed in war work.

He is survived by his wife, a son, Kenneth of Council Bluffs; a daughter, Norma at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bauer of Walnut; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Bees of Walnut and Mrs. Raymond Linke of Walnut and many other relatives and friends.
