Lena Augusta Claussen 1902-1927

Lena Augusta Claussen was born at Manning, Iowa, on December 31, 1902 and passed away at the Swedish Mission hospital, Omaha, Friday, May 13 (1927), aged 24 years, 4 months and 12 days. The funeral services were held at her late home in Avoca, Iowa on Sunday, May 15 with Rev. Kilmer officiating.

Lena Augusta Claussen was born at manning, when she was three years of age her parents moved to Avoca where they have since made their home and where she grew to womanhood and graduated with the Class of 1920 or our public school. After leaving school, she became one of our successful rural teachers. At the time of her death she was teaching southeast of Hancock. About three years ago, she had an operation. Her last illness was a case of appendicitis and she was taken to the hospital and operated on and seemed to be recovering nicely until last week on Thursday when her heart began to give symptoms of failing. Everything that could be done was did but death took her early Friday morning.

Miss Claussen was one of Avoca’s popular young ladies with a large circle of friends. She was always cheerful and happy and her sudden death was a sever blow to her friends.

She leaves to mourn her loss her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Claussen, three sisters: Emma, Edna, and Helen, and three brothers: Rudolph, Elmer and Jean.

The funeral was one of the largest ever attended in Avoca. Her school children attended in a body. The community extends sympathy to the bereaved family in their sorrow.
