Mrs. Gus Wiese Giese 1868-1949

Funeral services for Mrs. Gus Giese were held from the Blust-Berthusen funeral home Wednesday afternoon with the Rev. Joseph Gerlt officiating. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.

Mrs. Giese died at her home in Avoca Sunday evening, January 9, following a long illness. She reached the age of 80 years and 12 days.

A native of Germany, she was born in Schoenberg, Holstein province on December 17, 1868, a daughter of Peter Wiese and his wife Lena Stoltenburg. She came to this country with her parents in 1888 and settled in the Corley community.

On March 25, 1897, she was married to Gus Giese. They lived on a farm near Corley until they moved to Avoca in 1909.

She is survived by four daughters, Helen and Emma at home, Mrs. Charles Albertus of Shelby, Mrs. Harry Dose of Harlan; three sons, William and Herman of Avoca and Carl of Marne; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died February 28, 1936 and two children in infancy.
