Takes Own Life WednesdayArthur Schaaf, well known farmer, living southeast of Avoca committed suicide Wednesday morning by hanging himself in a tree in the pasture on his farm. Funeral services will be held at his home tomorrow, Friday, May 27, at 2 pm with Rev Joseph Gerlt in charge.
Arthur Schaaf was born April 2, 1890, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans Schaaf. On January 12, 1915, he was united in marriage to Miss Alma Karstens. To this union were born two sons, Marion, 16, and LaVerne, 13.
About eight years ago Mr. Schaaf had a severe infection caused by bad teeth and it was necessary to operate and remove part of the left jaw. Since that time he has suffered greatly with his head at times. He has not been able to wear a hat since his operation at times he was almost on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
Wednesday morning he went to the pasture to look after some stock and his body was found shortly before noon hanging in a willow tree in the ravine.
Mr. Schaaf is survived by his widow and two sons, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Schaaf of Avoca, three brothers: Johannes, Alfred, and Beu; and three sisters, Mrs. Meta Peters, Mrs. Dorn Schaaf, and Mrs. Wilma Olesen all living in and near Avoca.
