ELMER CLARENCE HEESCH 1923-1928

Elmer Clarence Heesch was born January 9, 1923, being the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John Heesch. His childhood days were as happy as those of any child and he had come to an age where he could appreciate them, looking forward to the time when he was with his sisters and brothers could wend his way to school. But God took him from us in accordance with his wise counsel. A disease, appendicitis, brought days of great anxiety to the parents and much pain to the little sufferer.

The best medical and surgical skill was employed to save the precious life, but Elmer was called out of this on Wednesday, January 19th, at 1 o’clock am at the age of 5 years and 9 days. He had been baptized about two years ago.

Besides his parents he leaves his grandparents, Simonson and his sisters and brothers: Lilly, Arthur, Rudolph, Mrs. Alma Piittmann, Herbert, Velma, Tilly, and Raymond.

The funeral was held Saturday, January 21, at 2 o’clock pm from the Lutheran church where a large concourse of relatives and friends had gathered to express their sympathy to the bereaved family. Rev. Hurtz officiating.

ELMER HEESCH

Last Sunday two children of Mr. and Mrs. John Heesch, who live west of Avoca, were taken ill. A doctor was called and diagnosed the trouble as acute appendicitis. The children, Matilda, 11 years of age and Elmer, 5 years old were taken to the Jennie Edmundson hospital in the bluffs and both operated upon Sunday evening.

Little Elmer was found in a very bad condition and passed away early Wednesday morning. The body was brought to Avoca by Blust Bros. about 6 o’clock Wednesday morning.

The funeral services will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran church in Avoca, Saturday, January 21, at 2 o’clock pm.

Mr. and Mrs. Heesch are the parents of nine children and there have been several cases of appendicitis in the family. Last summer while Mr. and Mrs. Heesch were visiting in South Dakota with the younger children the daughter, Velma age 15, was taken suddenly ill and was rushed to the hospital and operated upon for appendicitis. She made a nice recovery. A few years ago another child died from appendicitis and the family circle is again broken from the same disease.

Matilda is doing as well as may be expected. Mr. and Mrs. Heesch have the sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.
