Walter WENDT passed away Thursday, July 26, 2007 at Omaha Nursing and Rehab in Omaha, NE. He was 92 years, 3 months and 14 days old at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held Saturday July 28 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca, IA with Pastor Dennis Reich officiating. Interment was in the Graceland Cemetery, in Avoca. Serving as casket bearers were Jack SHEPHARD, John SHEPHARD, Roger BRINKERHOFF, Dick STONE, and John HOFFMAN.
Walter Herman WENDT, son of Gustave and Marie (NOLLER) WENDT, was born on April 12, 1915 in Avoca and was baptized at First German Lutheran Church in Avoca. he grew up on his parent's farm and attended New Boston Township School near Avoca.
Walter completed his education when he joined the United States Navy where he served for 3 years.
After his honorable discharge, Walter returned to the Avoca area and worked on various famrs around Avoca and Harlan [IA] including the farm of Wendell and Virginia LYTLE near Harlan. He later moved to Omaha and began working at the Omaha Livestock for over twenty years.
While in Omaha, Walter became a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his sisters Laura SHEPHERD of Bellevue, NE and Phyllis STAUB of Fountain, MN, nieces, nephews and friends.Avoca, IA "Journal-Herald" 2 August 2007 p.4 and 9 August 2007, p.4
