MRS. LUCINDA SCANDRETT 1856-1902
The death of Mrs. Lucinda Scandrett occurred at 6:30 on Tuesday morning, April 22, (1902) after a lingering illness lasting several months.

Deceased, whose maiden name was Lucinda Smith, was born in the state of Pennsylvania in 1856 and came with her parents to the State of Iowa when seven years of age and located in Scott county. Mr. and Mrs. Scandrett were married on Oct 28, 1880. After their marriage they moved to Avoca where they lived eight years, then moved to their house near Grinnell eleven years ago.

Mr. Scandrett and three children are left to mourn the loss of a most devoted wife and mother. Lulu, age 16, is the oldest child, then Milton, age 12, and Bernice, age 9. Mrs. Scandrett also leaves three brothers—Lewis, John, and Matthew, all of whom live near Grinnell. Four sisters of the family are still living—Mrs. Nancy Hyde, Mr. Lulu Craven, charity and Mary Smith.

Mrs. Scandrett was amiable Christian woman. She united with the church in 1874 and for 28 years out of the 46 years of her life she has done what she could for the church she loved.

With admirable Christian fortitude she endured with patience the suffering incident to her illness of the past few months and when the end came finally she welcomed it with a resignation which only a Christian’s faith can know.

The funeral services took place at the home April 23rd at three o’clock in the afternoon and were conducted by her pastor, Rev. S. Rowland Robinson of the Baptist church.

Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Miss Mary Smith of Chicago, Mrs. Lulu Craven of Kellogg and Mrs. Rockwell of Avoca.
