Dies at Avoca, Served in State, County Positions

AVOCA—Frank D. Nieman, former state fire marshal and deputy sheriff of Pottawattamie County, died Sunday at his home in Avoca after a lingering illness. He had been a resident of Avoca for 62 years. Services will be Tuesday at 2 pm at the Blust-Berthusen funeral home here, the Rev. John M. DeBerg in charge with burial in Graceland cemetery.
A native of Pleasant Valley, Iowa, Mr. Nieman was born July 23, 1869. In addition to serving as fire marshal and deputy sheriff, he also held posts as game warden member of the state board of parole, and was once employed by the state bureau of investigation.
Surviving are his widow, Lena, with whom he observed a golden wedding anniversary in 1942; three sons: Glen, Theodore and Will Nieman all of Avoca; and two daughters: Mrs. Bessie Crann and Mrs. Jean Sorensen both of Avoca

Frank Nieman, 78, Dies at Avoca; Well Known Here
Frank D. Nieman, former deputy sheriff of Pottawattamie County and state fire marshall, died Sunday at his home in Avoca after a lingering illness. He had been a resident of Avoca for 62 years. He was well known in Walnut because of the county office he held. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Avoca, the Rev. J. M. DeBerg in charge, with burial in Graceland cemetery. A native of Pleasant Valley [Scott County], Iowa, Mr. Nieman was born July 23, 1869. In addition to serving as fire marshall and deputy sheriff, he also held posts as game warden, member of the state board of parole, and was once employed by the state bureau of investigation. Surviving are his widow, Lena, with whom he observed a golden wedding anniversary in 1942; three sons, Glen, Theodore and Will Nieman; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Crann and Mrs. Wilbert Sornsen, all of Avoca.
