Mrs. Emma Peters 1850-1927

Mrs. Emma Peters passed away at the home of Coon, where she has resided for the past four years, on Wednesday, March 23, 1927 at the age of 76 years, 5 months, and 10 days. The funeral services were held from the Lutheran church, Avoca, on Sunday afternoon at 2 pm.

Emma Peters was born October 13, 1850, at Martersburg, Germany, and in her infancy was baptized in the Lutheran faith. Her mother passed away when she was nine months old and at the early age of two years, she came with her father and sisters to the United States, where they settled at Davenport and later on a farm near Bluegrass, Iowa.

In 1871, she was united in marriage to Henry Peters and moved to a farm near Avoca. After a number of Years she moved to Avoca, where her husband died August 25, 1905.

In 1917,, she moved to California and while there the dread disease took a new grip on her and she returned to Avoca in 1922. She loved Avoca and longed to spend her remaining years with relatives and friends to whom she had long been known as Auntie Peters. During her long and lingering illness which she bore with such beautiful courage, her faith him god and Saviour was a rod and a staff to her. Much of the agony, which might have been expected from the ravages of the disease, was spared her by the closest and most careful attention of her physician and Mrs. Coon, who everything possible to cheer her and lighten the burden for her.

Mrs. Peters was for many years a member of the Lutheran Ladies’ Aid Society and always took great interest in the society.

The funeral was attended by many relatives and friends. The Lutheran Ladies’ Aid attending in a body.
