Prominent Hancock Man Dies Suddenly

Ira Hendricks Greever, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Greever, was born November 30, 1889, in James Township, and attended the Country School south of Hancock. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Hancock, Iowa.

He started in the Ford Agency and garage business in 1914, and left it in 1917, when he was inducted into the army, where he served until March 13, 1919. During which time he spent from July 14, 1918 until February 27, 1919 in France and England. Upon his discharge he returned to his Ford garage and continued in business until the time of his death.

He was united in marriage to Leona C. Jacobsen January 21, 1920, and to this union was born one son, Donald Deen. He was taken to the Jennie Edmundson Hospital on June 24, 1947, to undergo a major operation and was returned home July 1, 1947, seemingly in good condition, but at about 3 pm Thursday, July 3, 1947, his life suddenly came to an end, age 57 years, 8 months, and 3 days. It was later found that the cause of his death was a blood clot.

He leaved to mourn his passing his only son, Donald and one brother, Lee Greever of Hancock. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Callie, and a younger sister, Erma Warren, his father Thomas, his wife Leona, who passed away December 2, 1939, and his mother, Alice, March 19, 1942. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the I.O.O.F of Hancock.

He also leaves to mourn a host of friends and distant relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday July 6, 1947, at the Hancock Methodid Chruch, the pastor, Rev. M. A. Banker, conducting the services and burial was made by the side of his wife, Oak Hill Cemetery, Hancock, Iowa.

The pallbearers were Felix Van Beck, Russell Hirkham, Gerald Maassen, Carl Lorensen, Chris Thies, Jim Stevens, Nobert Blust, Pete Jacobsen. The music by Mrs. Dwight Parker and Mrs. Henry Christensen, and Mrs. Dool, Pianist.
