Requiem Mass for Mrs. Paul Wise Here Tuesday

The Avoca community was saddened last Saturday evening (August 15, 1970) when it became known that Mrs. Paul (Beatrice) Wise died suddenly, the apparent victim of a heart attack.
Father LaVern Wingert was the celebrant of the Requiem mass for Mrs. Wise at Saint Mary’s Church at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 18th. He was assisted at the Mass by Father Arthur Ring of Des Moines, a first cousin of Mrs. Wise. Father Paul Begley of Wayne, Nebraska, a friend of the family also assisted at the Mass. Father Ring preached the funeral sermon.

Interment was in the family plot at Graceland Cemetery. Berthusen-Knutson funeral home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
Barbara Beatrice (Gross) Wise was born at Shelby, on June 23, 1915, a daughter of William R. and Grace C. Ring. She attended school in Avoca and graduated with the Class of 1932.
She was married to Paul E. Wise on December 27, 1934. They are the parents of eight children, five daughters and three sons.

Survivors include her husband Paul; five daughters: Bernadine, Mrs. Arthur Burley of Omaha; Theota, Mrs. Lonn Nelsen; Carolyn, Mrs. Dennis Piittmann; Margie, Mrs. James Szadis, all of Avoca, and Paula, at home; three sons, George and Francis of rural Avoca, and Michael, at home. Sixteen grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. James (Josephine) Leslie and Mrs. Marion (Wilma) Weinmann of Avoca and a brother, Bernard Gross of Avoca.
Mrs. Wise was dedicated to the work of her church and was member of St. Mary’s Altar-rosary society. She took an active interest in school and community affairs.
