Life Story of Mrs. D. Sorensen

Last rites for Mrs. Detlef Sorensen were held from the Blust-Berthusen funeral home Saturday, April 5 at 2 pm Rev Oscar Johnson was in charge of the services and interment was in Graceland cemetery.

Emma Gertrude Gustafsen was born May 16, 1897, in Cass county and passed away suddenly at her home southeast of Avoca April 2, 1952, at the age of 54 years, 10 months, and 12 days. As a young girl she moved with her parents to a farm southeast of Avoca.Here she attended a rural public school.

On February 26, 1920, she was united in marriage to Detlef Sorensen. The same year she and her husband moved to a farm in northern Iowa, near Ringsted in Emmett county, where they spent the first 11 years of their marriage. While there, as son, Earl, was born. In 1931, they moved back to this vicinity to farm east of Walnut, and from the year 1935 lived on the farm where her life came so suddenly to an end.

Mrs. Sorensen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and has been affiliated with the English Lutheran church. She loved her home and conscientiously sought the welfare of her family.
She leaves to mourn her passing: six sisters, Mrs. Anna Sarvis, Mrs. Harry Wiese, and Mrs. Leonard Peters of Avoca, Mrs. Chris Christensen of Atlantic, Mrs. Harry Burgin of Council Bluffs, and Mrs. Ernest Jacobsen of Nebraska City’ three brothers, Chris Gustafsen, Fred of Santa Monica, California, and Carl of Casa Grande, Arizona. She will be missed by a host of relatives, neighbors and friends.

AVOCA FARM WOMAN DIES SUDDENLY
Funeral services for Mrs. Detlef Sorensen, 55, will be held from the Blust-Berthusen Funeral home Saturday, April 5 at 2 pm.

Mrs. Sorensen died suddenly at her home southeast of Avoca Wednesday afternoon. She was out in the yard and toppled over about 4:30 pm. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
She is survived by her husband, one son, Earl and two grandchildren. A complete obituary will be published in this paper next week.
