Nicholas Bauman Falls From Wagon, Breaks Neck
(September 10, 1855 - November 25, 1927)

Last Friday forenoon as Nicholas Bauman was going to the house with a load of corn at the Wm. Gross home he was thrown from the wagon with such force as to cause instant death.
The deceased was born in Alsace, Franc, September 10, 1855, being 72 years, 2 months, and 15 days of age at the time of his death. After serving the customary time in the army, he decided to make his home in America arriving in this country 42 years ago. He spent his life working among the farmers of this vicinity and for the past three years has made his home with William Gross and family.
Funeral services were conducted by Father Albers Sunday afternoon and the remains were laid to rest in the Avoca cemetery.

(Nicholas Bauman was an immigrant from the same area of France as that of Dominick Gross Jr and at the time of his death was working for Dominick’s son, William. The Gross family had Mr. Bauman buried in their family plot at Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, Iowa. Photo of Nicholas Bauman available)
