Dies Aged Four Score and Three --- Emigrated to America from Germany, W.F. Remmers dies After Short Illness at Home of His Daughter.

Wilhelm Frederick Remmers was born at Oldenburg, Germany, January 6, 1832; departed this life at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Peter Hansen, Monday morning, December 20, 1915; age 83 years, 11 months and 14 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Henrietta Gerdes at Oldenburg, Germany. To this union were born nine children, three of whom died in Germany. He left the Fatherland in Company with his family and arrived at Baltimore, Md., September 18, 1891. He and family came directly to Iowa and settled on a farm near Council Bluffs, where he continued to reside till the year 1906, when he went to Ilion, N.Y. to make his home with his son Fred. Two years later he returned to Iowa, since which time he has resided at intervals with each of his four daughters. The wife and mother died at here home near Council Bluffs in the year 1895. On August 10, 1905, a daughter Mrs. Adolph Dreier, departed this life at Council Bluffs. The surviving children are: Fred Remmers, Ilion, NY; Mrs. Fred Schiecupsky, Neola, IA.; Mrs. Gerhard Reelfs, Underwood, IA.; Mrs. Adolph Frish, Quick, IA.; and Mrs. Peter Hansen, Oakland, IA. The deceased was a devout Christian, a member of the German Lutheran church, honorable and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men. During his long and eventful life, he has enjoyed almost perfect health. His last illness was of short duration -- about six days. He retained consciousness up to a short time before death and asked about the absent children. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. and at Hazel Dell church near Weston at 1 P.M. The pall bearers were: Bert Rodwell, John Foremen, Cal Martin, Tom Martin, Verne Bellinger and Carl Hannah. Interment was made at Hazel Dell Cemetery.
