Sister Mary Josette Carroll, age 92, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, in Johnston, Iowa.

Sister Mary Josette, the daughter of Mary Ann (Moran) and James Carroll, was born September 3, 1916, in Granger, Iowa. She attended both elementary and high school in Granger. Upon graduation, she entered the Sisters of Mercy at Mount Loretto, in Council Bluffs. She earned her B.A. at the College of St. Mary, in Omaha, Neb., and her M.A. at Creighton University. Sister taught grade and high school classes as well as serving as principal of elementary schools in Nebraska, Iowa, California, and Missouri.

After 38 years of education ministry, she was certified and served as Pastoral Care Director at Mercy Hospital, in Council Bluffs. Prior to her retirement in 2006, Sister Josette was assistant manager at McAuley Terrace, in Johnston. She has been a resident of Bishop Drumm Care Center since her retirement.

Survivors include Sisters of Mercy community members; her extended family members and many friends.

A welcoming service will be Friday, at 4 p.m., at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, at Bishop Drumm, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Friends may call from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Saturday, October 18th, also at the chapel. Burial will follow in Glendale Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.
