Gary L. Bemis, age 66, of Council Bluffs, died October 12, 2008, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

He was born September 13, 1942, in Nickerson, Kan., to Leroy and Dorothy (Starr) Bemis. A self-employed carpenter, he was the owner and operator of Garron Homes. Gary married Sharon (Casto) on August 7, 1961 and they made their home in Council Bluffs.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Diane Bemis, Lyndon and Kim Bemis, and Paul and Cyndi Bemis; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve Andrews; brother, Bill and his wife Laurie Bemis; sisters, Patricia and her husband Edward Johannsen, Shirley Ross; 8 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with the family is Tuesday, 6-8 p.m., at the New Horizon Presbyterian Church, 30 Valley View Dr., in Council Bluffs. Funeral service is Wednesday, 10 a.m., also at the church, Rev. Paul Masters officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
