In Memory: Emma M. Burnett

The funeral for Emma M. “Tootie” Burnett, 85, of red Oak Good Samaritan Nursing Home was held Wednesday morning at Cutler Chapel with the Rev. Al Hazelton of First Assembly of God Church in Harlan officiating.

Mrs. Burnett died May 4 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.

She was born August 13, 1916, in Plattsmouth, Nebraska, to Lon and Emma (Glenn) Owens. She lived in Council Bluffs most of her life, moving to Shelby in 1986 and to Red Oak four years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Harlan.

Mrs. Burnett and her husband, Marcellus B. “Pete”, were married 51 years.

Survivors in addition to her husband include two daughters, Shirley M. Koory and husband, Murph, of Omaha and Joan Sallach and husband, Jim, of Red Oak; three sons, Ronald L. Mahan and wife, Evelyn, of Shelby, Gerald A. “Bud” Mahan, and wife, Jennette, of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Thomas L. Sieburg and wife, Kathy, of Council Bluffs; one sister, Florence Rasmussen, of Council Bluffs; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family was held Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Burial was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at First Nazarene Church in Council Bluffs.

Memorials may be offered to First Assembly of God Church in Harlan.
