Joyce Darlene Stempel, age 87, passed away June 22, 2008, in Kansas City, Mo.

Joyce was born on September 17, 1920, in Oakland, Iowa, to Oran A. Brown and Lyda M. Flesher.

She is a graduate of Oakland High School. Joyce was a 60 year resident of Council Bluffs and a longtime employee at the central office of the Council Bluffs Community Schools.

Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Lyle F. Stempel. She and Lyle had been married 63 years at the time of his passing, in 2002. She is also preceded by her parents.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Steve and Roxie Stempel, of Phoenix, Ariz., Mark and Linda Stempel, of Smithville, Mo.; grandsons, Brett, Justin, Christopher and Colby Stempel; close cousins, Ramona Crookham and Diana Lea Somers; and her beloved extended family.

Visitation with the family is Friday, 6-8 p.m., at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral service is Saturday, 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, Pastor Ben Baird officiating.

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Washington Township.
