In Memory: Louise Voss

Louise Katherine Voss was born on July 21, 1924 in Macedonia, Iowa. She was the daughter of Michael and Branche Auchenbaugh Herbert and was one of eight children in the family. She attended school in Macedonia and graduated with the Class of 1941.

Louise was married to Donavon Voss in Camp Crowder, Missouri on August 15, 1943. They were the parents of ten children: Donavon Jr., Richard, Robert, Gary, John, David, Joseph, Ann, Paul and Roger.

Louise enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful cook. She loved her children and when they needed an extra player for a game of football she was always willing to join in. When voting time rolled around she was happy to volunteer her time at the polls and with voter registration.

Becoming a grandmother was very special to Louise and she took great pride in her grandchildren. Louise was a member of the Legion Auxiliary in Hancock and the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avoca.

Louise passed away suddenly at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs on December 18, 2002. She was 78.

Her parents, two brothers; Earl and Michael, and two sisters; Elizabeth and Agnes preceded Louise in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Donavon of Hancock, ten children; Donavon H. Jr., and his wife, Donna of Lawrenceville, Georgia; Richard E. and his wife, Bettie of Antioch, California; Robert A. and his wife, Diane of Ashland, Nebraska; Gary L. and his wife, Sue of Lincoln, Nebraska; John F. and his wife, Vicki of Omaha, Nebraska; David J. and his wife, Theresa of Dahlonega, Georgia; Joseph L. and his wife, Suzanna of Norwalk, Iowa; Ann L. and her husband, Mark Vandivort of Underwood, Iowa; Paul D. and his wife, Lori of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Roger M. and his wife, Diane of Roanoke Virginia; 23 grandchildren; one great grandchild, two brothers; Martin Herbert and his wife, Beverly and Leo Herbert and his wife, Alice, all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and one sister, Frances Hooker of Grand Island, Nebraska.

Funeral services were held Saturday, December 21 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Avoca with Father John Frost officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock.
