Geneva C. Symonds

Funeral Mass for Geneva C. Symonds, 84, of Council Bluffs will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Chuck Kottas and the Rev. C.R. Hannan officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the Mass in St. Peter's Social Hall.

Mrs. Symonds died Jan. 12 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

She was born March 1, 1918, in Corning to Valentine and Agnes (Dowling) Miller. She previously lived in Corning, Lincoln, Neb., and Hastings, Neb., moving to Council Bluffs in 1951. She graduated in 1935 from Corning High School and attended Peru State Teachers College. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Dana College in Blair, Neb. She was an elementary school teacher for 42 years, teaching in Mercer, Carbon and Massena, and 24 1/2 years at Walnut Grove School in Council Bluffs. She retired in March 1983.

She was a member of St. Peter's Church, its Altar & Rosary Society, Catholic Daughters of America St. Anthony's Court No. 330, Chapter I2 of PEO Sisterhood, Kappa Kappa Ita and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.

Mrs. Symonds was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 1991 and her daughter, Susan Weman, in 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Symonds of Council Bluffs and John T. Symonds, D.O., and wife, Mary, of Falls City, Neb.; four grandchildren, Casey, Ben, Emily and Lisa Symonds.

Wake service will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home, followed by family visitation until 8:30 p.m. Burial will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery in Corning.

Memorials may be offered to St. Peter's Church or Sacred Heart Endowment Fund in Falls City, Neb.
