James P. Rooney, age 74, of Duluth, Georgia, formerly of Council Bluffs, passed away March 25, 2008, at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth.

Jim was born September 29, 1933, in Omaha to the late Joseph and Helen (Adams) Rooney. He served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Jim was an independent floor covering contractor in Council Bluffs for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #2.

Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Donna; brother, Terry; sisters, Joanne and Fran.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly McConnell-Rooney of Duluth; daughter, Joanne (Cody) Singley and husband, David, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; sons, P.D. "Chip" Cody and wife, Pat, of Overland Park, Kan., James Rooney and wife, Carla, of Liberty, Mo., Scott Rooney and wife, Michelle, of Omaha, Darrin Rooney and wife, Kim, of Harlan; 11 grandchildren; brother, Tom Rooney and wife, Pat, of Omaha; nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held, Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Interment Garner Township Cemetery with military rites tendered by American Legion Post #2. A lunch will follow at the American Legion Club.

Memorials to the American Cancer Society preferred.
