Richard D. Duitman, age 80, of Council Bluffs, passed away March 11, 2008, at Northcrest Care Center.

Richard was born March 14, 1927, in Council Bluffs, to the late James F. and Ethel V. (Dillion) Duitman. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1947. Richard served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 45 years, retiring as a conductor in 1992. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Norma J. Duitman, in 2005.

He is survived by his daughter, Jacque Duitman; son, James R. Duitman, both of Council Bluffs; grandsons, Jeff Meredith, of Burbank, Calif., and Andy Meredith, of Omaha, Neb.

Visitation with the family, Thursday, 6-8 p.m., at Cutler- O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Private graveside service and burial, Friday, in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials to Asera Care Hospice preferred.
