In Memory: Nettie Lavar Orr
(November 15, 1904 - May 9, 2003)

N. Lavar Orr, 98, died May 9 at the home of her daughter Karen Larsen and husband, Calvin. She lived at her current residence for 19 months and had been a previous resident of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Council Bluffs since 1945.

She was born in Wayne County to the Rev. Francis and Rev. Myrtle (Poland) Wolfe on November 15, 1904, and graduated from Chariton High School in 1922. She attended Simpson College and Cedar Falls where she received her teaching certificate.

She worked as a rural school teacher for Stennett Consolidated Schools and later worked for Beno's Department Store in Council Bluffs in the children's department. She worked in the People's Store Credit Department for 20 years and was the financial secretary at Broadway Methodist Church for five years. She retired in 1977.

She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, the Grand Circle at Broadway United Methodist, a 78-year member of Eastern Star No. 441, the Council Bluffs Federated Women's Club and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Orr, in 1965.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Larsen and husband, Calvin, of Underwood; two granddaughters, Nancy Kragt and husband, Steve, of Sioux Center, Linda Roeman and husband, Dale, of Worthing, South Dakota; a foster brother, Virgil Bowen and wife, Myrtle, of Des Moines; four great-grandchildren, Karelyn, Steven, Damian and Cameran Kragt; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation with the family was held Tuesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home and included a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 11 at Broadway United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martin Arnpriester officiating with burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery and a luncheon at Broadway United Methodist.

Memorials may be offered to Broadway United Methodist Church.
