In Memory: Kathryn Applegate

Kathryn E. Applegate, 83, of Council Bluffs died January 20 at her home.

She was born April 18, 1921, in Neola to John and Catherine (Swartz) Cavanaugh. She previously lived in Avoca, moving to Council Bluffs in 1967. She was a 1939 graduate of St. Joseph High School in Neola. She was a homemaker, and member of St. Patrick's Church and its Altar & Rosary Society.

Mrs. Applegate was preceded in death by her husband, Ward W. Applegate, on April 29, 1999, her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirlee Matthews of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Nancy Stout of Council Bluffs and Donna Price and husband, Jeffrey, of Woodbridge, Virginia; one son, Brian Applegate, and wife, Sue, of Des Moines; five granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday afternoon with a wake service at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Rev. James Ryan, S.J., officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Neola with a luncheon following at St. Patrick's Church Hall in Council Bluffs.

Memorials may be offered to St. Patrick's Church.
